Starting May 2009, I have pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir.
The Uniform Project is also a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India. At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for children living in Indian slums.

With the end of the year nearing, we are working hard and fast, above and beyond to get the site up and running. It is taking longer than expected but the team are working their little butts off to develop the site, sort the stock and organise the behind the scenes bits and pieces. I know you're waiting patiently, so here's an unedited, sneak peak. We have everything from vintage military jackets to bombers, Clarks boots, old-school Docs, lace dresses, fur coats and boys leathers.... slow and steady wins the race - my gran told me that!

A fleeting overnight visit to New Plymouth for a family wedding this weekend is the perfect opportunity to hunt for stock for gran's loose change. I nabbed this Sara Moon a wee while back and am looking specifically for J H Lynch, Sara Moon and Pearson prints at present, so keep checking back and I'll let you know when I find some...
We now have a facebook page...YAY! So become a fan and follow our regular updates on the goings on of gran's loose change. gran has been pretty busy gearing up for the opening...stock will be photographed next week and a meeting is locked in with the web developers to start construction! The countdown begins...

The magpie brings us tidings
Of news both fair and foul;
She's more cunning than the raven,
More wise than any owl.
Just got back from a city of powder blue skies,
There's plenty of spies.
Every street is crooked, they just wind around till they disappear.
Madame Butterfly, she lulls me to sleep
like an ancient river,
so wide and deep...
From magpies to butterflies
watch it all transform.
In the depths of the night
a new personality is born.

If I were to ask you what you'd MOST like to see gran's loose change stock, what would you say? Shoes? Dresses? Jackets? Denim?
I am asking.
Your wish is my command, so take this opportunity to be boss, and let me know what you'd like to see available on the online store..
